On 23rd May, Sakhalin’s main air hub will welcome a delegation from China, which will include representatives of major airlines, travel agencies, airports and travel bloggers. With the support of the regional Ministry of Tourism, airport staff have prepared a comprehensive programme designed to showcase the island’s potential to foreign visitors. This was reported by the press service of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk Airport.

Over five days, participants in the familiarisation tour will be able to appreciate the region’s key attractions, sample the local cuisine, rich in seafood, go sea fishing and even take part in culinary masterclasses. One of the most important points on the itinerary will be the airport terminal complex itself – it is this that shapes the first impression of the region. Guests will be shown the airport’s operations from the inside: from passenger service and flight handling to baggage screening.

In addition to excursions and masterclasses, the programme includes business-to-business (B2B) meetings with local tour operators. These events will help Chinese specialists to better understand Sakhalin’s potential as a tourist destination and to develop effective strategies for its promotion in the Chinese market. This will result in the strengthening of partnerships and the expansion of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk’s route network through increased frequency and geography of flights.

“Organising familiarisation tours is one of the most effective ways to attract tourists. It’s rightly said: better to see once than hear a hundred times. Over five days, we will actively discuss cooperation prospects, which will undoubtedly strengthen ties between Sakhalin and China, as well as between our airport, airlines and travel agencies. I am confident that these negotiations will help increase passenger traffic on both existing and new routes,” said Alexander Strunin, Head of the Non-Aviation Commerce Department.

This is the first such tour for representatives of the Chinese tourism industry in the Sakhalin Region. Following its results, the airport plans to sign strategic partnership agreements with leading industry companies in China to jointly promote the region and create comfortable conditions for travellers.
